I have to say Allied movers was the worst experience that I have had with movers and I've been shipped across country many times now. Like one of the other reviewers noted the quality of the shipment relies largely on the small contracted company, in my case Coleman Allied in Maryland. However, the customer service from Allied in dealing with the mess their contractor left has been atrocious.

-First, the movers forgot to pack 3 large items that were specifically specified in the estimate.

-Next, even though they left these items behind I was charge $400 more than my estimate which was a 25% increase.

-Then, they lost 3 boxes and a mirror pack and broke several items because of the shotty packing job (part of the dish pack was just thrown in another box and the plates all broke).

-Finally I've spent the last several months trying fix all these things because no one from Allied or Coleman bothers to respond with any answers or solutions, and I have yet to be reimbursed properly.

I thought since I was going to get good service since Berger works with Allied Moving, a national service. However, I was dead wrong. Since Allied is a national service, they have to partner with a bunch of smaller companies if you plan to go across country, and the service you get really depends on those smaller companies.
First, they broke my bed frame when they were taking it apart. They didn't tell me they broke it, so it was a surprise when it was delivered. Speaking of delivery, they arrived four days late...And I wasn't notified until I called to ask where my furniture was. Allied didn't compensate me for the delay, because my delivery was under 3,500 pounds. I had to stay in a rental for four days since I didn't have my furniture, which cost me money.

At least Allied paid me for my bed, I'll give them that.

Review: Recently moved from Webster Springs, WV, to Cape Coral, F. Move went well
Thanks to Central Van and Storage, Shinnston, WV, agent, Rich Harmon, for efficiently and effectively coordinating the move. Thanks to Dunmar Moving Systems, Norfolk, VA, driver, Ernie Temple, for delivering our stuff and joyfully unloading our stuff by himself for about 6 hours.
I was very impressed with Ernie's ability to stay calm, pleasant, and maintain a positive attitude in spite of the fact that no workers showed up to help him unload. A worker finally showed up for about 2 hours late in the day. Very pleased with Allied Van Lines move.
Rich kept us advised on loading schedules; and delivery driver, Ernie Temple, kept us informed of his whereabouts, so even if the delivery was 2 days late, it was no big deal. If you're moving from WV, contact Allied Van Lines, and hope your agent is Central Van and Storage, Rich Harmon, and delivery is by Dunmar Moving Systems, Norfolk, VA, Ernie Temple.

I used Allied Van Lines November 2011 on a move from Florida to Virginia. The 2 drivers were older and slower. They broke several pieces of furmniture almost the entire Dining room set of chairs, China Glass, bedroom furniture, pieces of furniture that had been moved other times by local drivers that did not even have a scratch. The Company's attitude was horible and their insurance only covered mimimal of what the repairs were. The Company in Norfolk Virginia, Smith Furnuiture Service, they did not even give an estimate of the repairs then charged as much as it would have cost to buy some of the furniture new. They were the company authorized to do repairs by Allieds insurance and they basically held our furniture hostage and the rates they charged we could have bought new furniture if we had the money. I would not recommend Allied to move your furniture.

Jim Stafford and his staff from Rose Moving & Storage in Belleville, MI representing Allied were spectacular. The move from MI to CA went smooth from the move out to the move in. Kind, considerate, caring, honest are just a few of the words to describe this company. The quote was right on, no extra charges and not one, NOT ONE, item broken or damaged from a three bedroom home. Their team of packers and drivers were so quick. Well planned production from start to finish!!!!

Allied Van Lines picked up my household goods on 6/8/11. My delivery window was 6/15-6/20. On 6/20 I call Allied only to find out that my goods are still in storage in NC. I am also told that they do not have a delivery date and do not have a truck to pick up the load. After 4 phone calls to Allied and posting on their facebook page, I have been given a delivery date of 6/30. I am living in and will continue to pay rent in an empty house and have a very unhappy 3 year old who doesn't understand why we have to sleep on the floor nor does he understand why the movers have all his things. Allied has offered me compensation that is an absolute joke for what they have put my family through. I will make sure that all my friends and family know not to use Allied for their future moving needs.

The estimator was clueless with giving us wrong info on international policies. He didn't tell us we had to write what's inside of each box, gave us wrong border paperwork, didn't follow the few requets we had and was awful!
But.... The driver and packers were fantastic!

The trouble started off with the estimator being off by 2000 lbs. The driver didn't have enough room to take all the items, so our shipment was split up. The second moving group loaded the rest of our goods as well as items that were specifically labeled as do not load including some flammables.

The second load was sent to a warehouse where multiple items were misplaced and lost. The flammables that were mistakenly loaded, namely an empty propane tank, were not delivered and were probably just thrown away.

We have submitted a claim and were awarded an amount for the furniture but not for the items that were marked do not load.

The representative from the moving company said it is the customers responsibility to make sure the movers dont load anything that they are not supposed to.

We still havent received our claim check and are pretty confident we never will. We will pass on Allied again if the option arises.

This is our third time needing a moving company in the last 10 years. We read all the moving company reviews and decided on Allied van lines based on what we read. The moving truck was clean and the movers did a wonderful job with our things. Out of all the moves we completed this was the best performed by far.

As a military family we move often and have plenty of experience with moving companies and moving services. Allied always does a good job for us and even provides moving discounts for military families. I personally love the customer service that Allied van lines have displayed during each of our moves.

The service provided was fantastic and we would use Allied van lines again with out question.

We did receive many quotes from different movers but I felt that going with a major moving company would ease our minds and concerns.

The work was done professionally and to our agreement.

After we got stuck from another mover which did not show up we called Allied and where set up with a local agent here in Texas.

The price was a bit higher then some of the other quotes we had received but I guess thats why they never came. The move was handled well and the crew seemed very capable in their work.

If I where doing it over I would have just went with Allied to begin with in the end it would have been cheaper over all.

My move date changed several times but my sales person was so helpful and professional right from the start. They had to have an inventory of my items and even though I didn't know how many boxes I would end up packing, my sales rep, told me I could give her that information later and she estimated a box count for me in my estimate. I was even able to give her an actual box count the day BEFORE my move and she readjusted my price!! When the movers arrived, ON TIME, Michael the foreman introduced himself and explained everything to me. He was very professional and the movers worked quickly and efficently. I was told it would take up to 14 days to receive my items, but 2 days after my items were picked up, I called and they told me my items were being shipped in 2 days and within 7 days total I had my items.I would use Daryl Flood again and have recommended them to others!

After moving twice in 16 months and using professional movers both times, I'll never go back to the days of using U-Haul! For my most recent move I used an affiliate of Allied Van Lines called Bailey's Moving & Storage. I plunged ahead and hired them as a mover. And in the end I was satisfied with their service.

Pre-Move Prep
I initially had someone from Allied visit my apartment and give me a written quote on the cost of my move. While it wasn't the lowest quote, I thought the Allied broker was the most organized and professional. They also have a good website for tracking your shipment (if you need that) and providing a lot of information on the moving process. The representative also offered packing services, additional insurance, and special packing instructions for unique items to be moved, but I did not need any of that.

Moving Day
A few days before moving day no one had contacted me from the moving company. Had they forgotten? I called the rep who had visited my apartment and he confirmed the move date and time. That same day I also got a mail confirmation of the move. In hindsight it seems like they were cutting it close with the follow-up.

My movers arrived on time but could not find my apartment. This caused some confusion since I went outside looking for the big, orange Allied Van Lines truck and here they were on the complete opposite side of the apartment complex. Once we connected they quickly went to work moving my stuff out and into the truck.

One big advantage to hiring a professional mover is having them dismantle and re-assemble beds, which they did without batting an eye. Also, they laid down some cardboard to protect the carpet and flooring. They were a bit rougher getting my stuff wedged into the apartment elevator, but I had everything packed really securely.

The guys moving my stuff worked quickly and efficiently. They found my house I was moving to (less than 12 miles away) and went to work unloading the truck after laying down more protecting layers on the floors. They were also good about putting the stuff in the right rooms.

Paying
I was initially told that I needed a cashiers check to pay for the quoted amount, or if using a credit card it had to be approved 72 hours in advance. I went with the cashiers check, but since the movers worked quicker than expected the final price was actually more than $100 cheaper ! (which earned them a good tip). However, I didn't want to mess with trying to get a refund so I dashed to the bank, voided the cashiers check, and got cold, hard cash to make the payment. I wish I had known ahead of time I could have just paid them in cash.

Overall
Allied Van Lines broker Bailey's Moving & Storage did a good job moving me. Nothing was broken, they arrived on time, and the final price was lower than quoted. My only complaints are some communication issues the day of the move, not knowing I could pay the driver in cash, and the confirmation of the move coming just 4 days before the actual move date. But those are small potatoes compared to many moving complaints so I'll rate them as a solid 4 stars and recommend.

There are a lot of things that are exciting about a job change. Moving is not one of them. When you are forced to take all of your belongings and put them into a large truck it can be a harrowing experience. As someone who is completing his second move in a little over one year, I can vouch for the fact that moving is a very stressful undertaking. Choosing the right moving company can be crucial to your success or failure in the moving process.

This time, we decided to go with Allied moving. I always prefer to go with a national company as opposed to Two Guys and a Truck (which is actually the name of a local company in our area!). The national companies usually have reputations to protect, and are able to provide much better information on the front end. Allied gave us a competitive price and showed great efficiency in providing our price quotes and other decision-making data. I was pleased with their customer service representative as well, as was my wife. Based on the information we had, we decided that Allied was the best choice for our move.

Now that moving day has come and gone, I have no regrets about my choice. The Allied personnel did a very good job in handling our materials and transporting them to our storage unit in the new city. Our movers took their time, and showed great care for our furniture and other belongings. These men were very efficient, and their prior experience showed. The driver (and head of the crew) was able to simply walk through the house one time and see exactly how the items needed to be loaded into the truck. They would take a cabinet from one room, a dresser from another, etc., only taking the things that they needed. At first we wondered why they would not take an entire room at a time, but once we saw what they were doing in the truck we understood. This crew made very good use of the space available. As you would expect, these dudes were STRONG! We have several pieces of furniture that are very heavy to us, but these guys did not even struggle with it. Things that would have taken two of us were easy for one of these men to move by himself. As I sat and watched them work, I was glad that I was not doing any heavy lifting myself.

To save money, we decided to do our own packing. This is something we did not do in our last move, and I can honestly say that it was time well spent. Knowing where our things were in the boxes made us feel a little better about putting our stuff into storage for a few months. We also saved around $700.00 by doing our own packing. The movers told us that we had packed things very well, making their job easier. In fact, one of them told us that we should have rented a truck and just moved ourselves and saved a whole lot of money. But the Allied folks made our move very easy, which makes the cost money well spent.

Before loading up, the Allied movers made very detailed notes about what pieces of furniture were scratched or damaged before the move. This allowed them to check everything coming out and make sure that they had not done any damage while in transit. The crew examined all of our items very closely, and even double-checked against their list and with us to make sure that nothing had been damaged. I could tell that these fellows took their job very seriously, and wanted to see that we were happy with the results, and that our belongings were well taken care of.

The Allied affiliate we used is based out of Gulfport, MS. I know that these companies have separate management for each branch, and that all Allied moving offices may not be as good as this one. Compared to other movers that I have used, this group did a fantastic job. We were very pleased with their courteous personnel, their emphasis on customer service, and their willingness to ensure our satisfaction. I would recommend this company without reservation to anyone planning an upcoming move. Allied will take away some of the stress of the process and save you some back pain as well!

Westheimer Transfer & Storage - Agent For Allied Van Lines
We had not moved in 33 years! Dale Morgan more than answered our questions about the process, giving us the confidence to proceed with this long distance move. We had the best moving team ever headed up by driver, Ramon. In March 2009, he, his son, & the team did the best job packing our belongings, protecting our furniture & then unloading to a storage space, even in the midst of personal tragedy. Everything arrived in perfect condition. God Bless You, Ramon & family. Thank you a thousand times! We would heartily recommend Allied.

Hi there; just wanted to share a (mostly) positive experience I just had with a moving company, Allied/Berger.

My wife & I moved from Austin to Savannah; we worked through Allied/Berger, after comparing them to Atlas & Stevens Van Lines. All three quoted very similar prices; all three sent representatives out to survey our household goods.

We were moving 6,915 pounds of stuff, which included a glass coffee table, lots of electronics and a Honda Civic.

I asked for a not to exceed price, and was quoted $3900.00; after doing my homework here, I got them to agree to and sign a paper guaranteeing no shuttle fee on the loading end of the trip (as I didn't think it was necessary; they ended up using a shuttle, but not charging me).

Turns out a "not to exceed price" is different than a "not to exceed or less" - our price was guaranteed, and they don't even bother weighing the truck. That's fine with me, but the vocabulary is a little confusing.

The packers were very courteous, quick and efficient. They showed up on time, asked permission to open doors, use the bathroom, get water, etc. They packed our entire house in less than four hours.

The shippers came the next day; they were about one hour later than the expected time, but called to say they were going to be late. Again, they were very courteous and efficient. Our glass table was crated up by a third party company (amazing - they build a full-fledged crate out of 2x4s in the driveway). We drove our Honda to the office, as their assistant shipper didn't know how to drive standard.

And then, off we go.

In Savannah, our shipment was scheduled for a three day window; it showed up on the first day. The driver got his 18 wheeler down an absurdly thin, southern street, and so no shuttle charge on this end either (although i bet the neighbors were mad! :P) .. The crew on this end was extremely exhausted, having just moved someone in at Jacksonville, driven for a few hours, and then was going to Atlanta after our stop. But again, they were courteous.

As our boxes began showing up, we scrambled to keep tally on the inventory list; it's hard to keep up with them, but we managed. In the end, one lamp (about a hundred bucks) was snapped in half, and the driver was VERY apologetic about it; a few wine glasses were shattered, and .. eek .. three boxes and one car were missing.

Turns out the car never made it on the truck in the first place, and the three boxes were lost.

Allied offered to rent us a car, deliver it to our house, and pick it up again; we declined, because we were enjoying walking around Savannah. The boxes, on the other hand, are missing in action :( But fully insured, and a claim is in process, and our representative in Austin is very good about following up with us about the status.

The civic arrived three days later on a third party van line.

So, overall, I give Allied a B- .. Everyone was NOT "out to screw us" - in fact, everyone was very professional. The lost items are disappointing but replaceable, and the car wasn't a big deal, and they offered to help us out with it.

My advice, other than what everyone has already posted here (such as videotaping your move, ensuring a visual weight based quote, etc) - get a few friends together for "move in day" to help checking boxes off the list! They move so quick, its hard to keep up, and in the end, its a reaaal pain to figure out what is really missing.

I decided to spend a little extra $$$ and go with a big name mover. I called an Allied affiliate based out of Bellevue WA to move me from Orlando FL to Redmond WA.

Ellen, a salesperson from North Coast Moving and Storage, called me back and after our discussion, sent me an estimate for 2000lbs and one for 3000lbs (I thought I'd be somewhere between the two). Her rates for the move were great, compared to the other big namers (United, Atlas) I've spoken with so far.

She was also able to send me a truck asap, since I called her on Oct 6th 08 and was leaving Orlando by Oct 14th.

Ellen was great, very friendly and accommodating. I felt very comfortable speaking with her unlike some of these folks I've spoken with recently. She passed me over to Laurel, an operations manager, who was also great and was very professional.

I checked out North Coast via the internet, and they have been around for 30+ years and had only 1 complaint listed on BBB and FMCSA.

So, my stuff made it to my new house in Redmond today, on time and undamaged! A few boxes/containers had some corners/sides bent in a bit, but I boxed my fragile stuff smartly with lots of blankets inside the boxes or containers.

This moving company was great. The company I went through was Allied - North Coast, but the actual movers were a couple of Allied guys out of Daytona, FL. Bill was the driver/boss and was excellent. They were all very professional, took great care of all my stuff (wrapped, padded, etc), and worked fast.

I highly recommend Allied - North Coast Moving and Storage out of Bellevue, WA. Once I get the name and company of Bill's Allied location from Daytona, FL, I'll post that too!

Well worth every penny. 5-stars. 10 outta 10, etc etc....
