I was very excited to finally book a moving company after relocating to FL. Since our home required some construction, we decided to leave our furniture in storage in Oregon until it was completed. After 3 months, we were finally ready to bring our belongings back. After doing my research and due diligence, I booked with Kings Vanlines. We flew back to Oregon to meet the movers for pick-up. On the scheduled date to pick up (12/9/09), when the driver didn't show for 2 hours, I finally called Chris M to find out what was going on. He called back and informed me that there was an issue and that we would have to use the "back-up" date for the following day and that the truck would be there between 8-9am. On the 10th, when they still had not showed by 10:00 am, I called Chris back. He informed me that they were doing a drop off about 10 miles away and would be there "shortly". When they still hadn't show by 11:30, I called Chris again. He said that he would have the driver call me. The driver did call about noon and informed us that they would not be there until 3:00pm. Mind you, we had been sitting in a car in the freezing cold since 7:30 that morning - we were on time. When the movers finally showed up at about 3:30 in the afternoon, they showed up in an Enterprise rental truck! As they were loading the furniture, I was informed that they were not from Kings Vanlines - that our contract had been sold! I was livid because Chris assured me before booking that they were NOT a broker. When we got home, I contacted Chris about this issue and he insisted yet again that they are not a broker...that he had looked up our contract and the owner had "given" it away to someone else because they were overbooked. Oh gee, that makes me feel better. We also asked why they were not wrapping and padding the furniture like they were supposed to. The guys assured us that it would be done in a warehouse prior to being loaded onto the delivery truck. Delivery was supposed to be between 7-10 days. Delivery actually took FOUR WEEKS (1/7/10), it was delivered by yet another company, and they had hired two local guys to help offload. These two guys said that our load was one of the worst loaded jobs they had seen in 16 years. Even though it was not their fault, they kept apologizing. Needless to say, none of our furniture had been wrapped or padded, so it had nicks, dents, and scratches on nearly every piece. Our experience with this company was an absolute nightmare: - The sales pitch was a total lie - Absolutely zero customer service (we initiated every single call aside from the sales call and the delivery driver call. We even had to track them down when they were a day and a half late on pick up.) - They lied about when our furniture actually left Oregon - it didn't actually leave until 2 weeks after they picked it up according to the delivery driver! - They showed a total disregard for our furniture - didn't care at all if it was damaged I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy and if I could give it any less than one star, I would.

This Moving company is horrible!
I wish I had never signed up with them. I moved
across country - from Simi Valley, CA to Dallas, TX.
After they loaded my furniture up, they tried to change
the moving price from 1200.00 to 3 to 5 K ... that is
they played the good cop / bad cop game between the
movers and the home office. I ended up paying 1000.00
more than agreed. Liers they are!
They destroyed my furniture, the home office did
not communicate with the drivers and the pick-up and
delivery times were all messed up. The person on the
delivery end was so very rude and unprofessional that
we ended up having to call the cops as he was trying
to charge me more than what was agreed upon and was
threatening to pull his guys off the job mid-stream.
Beware!

Van Lines for our move I had two other in home estimates that estimated the weight of our moves to be between 10 and 11 lbs. CHRIS, the customer representative from Kings Van Lines spoke with me several times at length and led me to believe that those estimates were probably, in fact, bloated, and our move would be in the 9000 lb. range. I inquired multiple times about possible upcharges and was assured that EVERYTHING was included in the quote and that there would be no upcharges. Chris also expressed on more than one occasion that they have NEVER had any complaints and directed us to the BBB website for Florida where there in fact were no complaints. Later, upon further investigation, we came across the BBB website for California where there are multiple complaints for this company. CHRIS did nothing but LIE to us.

We received a call the day before we were scheduled to be picked up asking if they could load us a day early. I was not fully packed and had a two month old baby but agreed to let them come and load the things already packed. They arrived at my home at 5:00 PM and pressured us into loading everything at once. Things happened so quickly that my head was spinning. I was trying to care for the baby, finish packing and oversee what was going on with the movers. At 11:30 PM they finished and IZHAK (the lead mover at our home....and later we found out the owner of the company....no he never mentioned that) tells us that we have WAY more stuff than the estimate and that he could charge us by the cubic foot instead of by weight to save us some money. SAVE US MONEY.....HE WAS TRYING TO CHARGE US MORE THAN $3000 OVER THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE. He then started throwing in all sorts of charges for tape and labor and "crating". My husband and I were pissed by this time and really tired so we said NO WAY. We asked IZHAK to weigh the load. We were confident that our load was what it had been estimated to be and thought that this guy was trying to pull a fast one on us.

So when we finally hear back from IZHAK he tells us that the weight was 23,000 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More than double the estimate. We were freaking out. These people has everything we owned in the world and would not begin shipping it to our new location until we paid 50% of the total cost. Once we started looking more closely on the internet we discovered that there were complaints (mentioned above) and we also figured out at this point that IZHAK was the OWNER of this company. After trying for several days to deal reasonably with him we decided to pay up and get our things back. I didn't want to piss them off while they had ALL of my belongings.

Prior to delivery of our items my husband asked to meet the driver at the truck scales to have our load reweighed. IZHAK was not there this time. My husband then went with the driver back to the scales after the load was delivered to reweigh the truck. As it turns out....OUR LOAD ONLY WEIGHED 11,080 LBS!!!!!! The driver had to refund ALL of the balance we paid at delivery and then Kings had to credit us and additional $750 to our credit card.

Lessons learned from this experience.....
1. ALWAYS get a binding estimate when you move. Ours said it was binding...but upon further examination of the fine print came to find it was not. ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT.
2. IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO BE PRESENT AT THE SCALES WHEN THE TRUCK IS WEIGHED. DO IT EVEN IF IT IS A PAIN IN THE A**. It will always be less that a pain in the a** than what we went through. Go to http://protectyourmove... for more info about your rights when you move. I wish we had done our homework.
3. DON'T USE KINGS VAN LINES. Chris is a good salesman. Beware!!!
