Sky Moving & Storage are professional rip-off artists. I cannot believe what happened to me, so please read carefully and AVOID this company. I initially contacted them because the facility was very close to my address in Florida. I called and obtained a quote over the phone. I listed all inventory items and estimated a number of boxes which would be filled in the packing process, as I needed packing as well. I obtained a quote of $1750 for door to door service including packing, all supplies needed for packing, elevator fee (I lived in a high rise condo), everything! I was slightly surprised at the low price, but was very thorough with the inventory list. On the day of the move, the men arrived on time and took a look at my things. He started doing some calculations on a contract and, when finished, claimed that I had more items than indicated in the quote and that the price would go up. He also began to add things like the "long walk" to the elevator which was about 50 feet from my door. I was getting nervous and began feeling uneasy, but I allowed him to finish. When he was done, his calculation showed $2150, which was $400 more than the original quote. He went on to explain that this is a binding contract and regardless of future circumstances, if I signed, he could not exceed this price. In my head, this number sounded more like what I originally expected, so I signed. The mover then proceeded to start working, leaving the signed paperwork in the kitchen. They were friendly throughout the day, although the one who did the paperwork was constantly on the phone and not working nearly as hard as the other, resulting in 6.5 hours to pack the truck on a 1000 sq ft one bedroom condo (kind of long). As they were finishing the last couple of trips down the elevator, the mover said he just needed me to sign the final paperwork and they would be done. Well guess what? Sometime during the day, he added a line item for packing supplies" on the paperwork and hand wrote a 6 over the 1, resulting in a $500 difference in the so called binding quote contract. THE GUY ALTERED THE DOCUMENT WITH MY SIGNATURE- FRAUD!! So of course I contested this paperwork, and his excuse was that he made a, calculation error I said no way, and called his company and got David, the so called owner on the phone. This guy started to back the mover up saying it was a simple calculation error. I was irate at this point exclaiming that I signed for $2150 and that's what I would be paying, not $2650. Well the, owner David flat out told me that he would have the movers unload all of my belongings in the street! It was raining and I had a flight back to NM early the next morning, not to mention my lease was up that day. So I was basically extorted for $500 in a fraudlant scam. I had no choice, pay the money or be stuck on the street, in the rain, with my belongings on the ground!!!!!! I have never expereinced anything like this and hope to never expereince it again. I am in the hospitality industry and have moved a lot, and never thought something like this would happen. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT affiliate yourself with this company. They are criminals! **Update**- I posted the above review on a moving review website and received another phone call from the owner, David. He said I have 24 hours to remove the review or he is suing me! Then he proceeded to input my personal information into random websites which contact you about moving and automobile shipping quotes. I know this because I have been receiving 20-30 phone calls and emails per day about shipping fictitious vehicles that I do not own. This began to occur immediately after his phone call. Is this really happening? YES! I cant believe it either. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I chose Sky Moving based solely on the reviews at MyMoverReviews.com. Had I researched the mostly-negative reviews of this company in other websites, I have avoided them like the plague. They were dishonest, unreliable and didnt care about customers.

When I spoke with Shiri of Sky Moving, she told me to give her & on the spot - an inventory of all the items to be moved. That should have been a red flag, because one of the things that set apart reliable, quality-service movers from crappy ones is how they take inventory. The former either give you a list on paper to itemize (to be sent back to them), or send a representative over to do inventory. On-the-spot verbal inventory is a sure sign of crappy service. It is also very inaccurate because one cannot remember everything every time. For me, there were items I forgot to include and didnt realize it till much later.

According to Skys quotation, the rates were based on weight and had a Tariff Discount Never heard of Tariff DiscountâI guessed it was intended to give the false impression that Sky provided the lowest rate. It sure looked that way on paper. However, the quotation didnt matter. Because Sky wasnt the one that came by to do the moving. The one that did showed up went by a completely different rate and led to a much higher cost.

I called Sky again on June 17 to reaffirm the address, date and transport vehicle (smaller than semi-truck). A man on the other line reaffirmed it all. Sunday, June 27 came. Waited till late afternoon, but no phone call from the driver as promised by Shiri. I left two messages on the office phone, in part expressing my concern that no driver was going to show up. Then at 7pm, a woman (#512-981-9417) called to tell me that a driver named Bobby would be coming the next day (Monday). She gave me his number (after I asked her for it), from which I called him. He told me over two calls that our items would be picked up on Monday and delivered on Tuesday. He did not tell me straight up; I had to ask him specifically. By that time, I had an uneasy feeling that there would be more problems to come.

Monday, June 28. By mid-afternoon, driver Bobby neither called nor answered the phone despite several attempts to contact him. So I called Ms. 512-981-9417 twice. The first time, she said shed try to contact Bobby then call me back. so I called her an hour later. She said Bobby didnt have the PO. How would he be able to get to my place without a PO?? I was already worried. I then called Shiri. It sounded like she wasnt at work. Background sound suggested she was elsewhere getting out of her car, and there was a kid with her?? After expressing my frantic state, she said shed get in touch with the driver. 30 minutes later, someone named Steve from Compass Van Lines called. He said hed be my driver, and would get to me when he finished with his current job. Except he didnt know when the current job would end. He and his crew didnt show up till 9pm. This meant that our items would not be delivered until the following afternoon.

When Steve went through the paperwork with me, I was charged $2.80/cu. ft. for quoted volume, and $3.80/cu. ft. for volume that was over. Since I was allegedly 200 cu. ft. over, that was an extra $786.60. 20 extra boxes of 5 cu. ft. each totaling over 200 cu. ft.?!! Bullshit! Furthermore, Compass charged me by the volume. Sky quoted me only by the weight $0.81/lb within quotation and $0.90/lb for weight that was over! Not only that, Steve tried to fleece me by claiming his boss wouldnt accept money order (for 50% of remaining quoted balance to be paid during pick up) that was made out to Sky Moving. In the first place, I didnt know Sky contracted the job to Compass until a few hours before Compass showed out, and that was late in the night on pick-up date. Even then, Steve wouldnt confirm the approximate time he would show up. Up to that point, I was under the impression that Sky was doing the moving. That was why the money order was made out to them. Yet Sky did not even have the courtesy to contact me prior to pick-up date to confirm arrival as promised. Steve didnt care. The $528.00 money order was no good. I would have to re-withdraw the rejected amount plus the remaining balance. Total projected cost = $2804.00. I could cover $2276.00 (if Steve would accept the money order), but not $2804.00. Where would I get that kind of money? (The following day, prior to delivery, Steve said that he accepted the money order, so I only needed to provide the remaining balance.)

Compass delivered on Tuesday mid-afternoon, with some damaged furniture. The whole experience was a nightmare. Stressful, poor to no communication from Sky, prospective burned finances and plenty of wasted time. I learnt now what to look for in a mover company the next time I relocate. Certainly not Sky Moving and Compass Van Lines. Any company that doesnt charge by volume isnot to be trusted. Furthermore, Sky did not offer an GNTE (Guarantee Not To Exceed) proposal, which allowed them and the contracted movers to charge me whatever obscene amount they wanted. But one question remained unanswered. Who was Bobby (#512-981-9418) and Ms. 512-981-9417 What did they have to do with the moving?

I have had a similar experience, here is my complaint.

When first asked for quote, was told that my furniture would arrive in 1-2 days, understandable considering I was moving 10 hrs away in connecting states. The 1-2 days turned into 1 week, which turned into 2 weeks, and eventually 3 1/2 weeks later my things arrived with more charges than were previously quoted to me. The initial quote said no hidden fees, but when the movers arrived there were fees for tape, and fuel surcharges that were not included in the initial quote. Although Kim was nice throughout the situation, the customer service was horrendous. I was never give a correct date, and was never offered any kind of incentive for misrepresented information. At the end I spent more money waiting for my things to arrive (flights to FL to receive pickup, air mattress, pots, pans for cooking, eating out, etc.) than I should have. And when my things did arrive my front loading Washing Machine was broken. No discount was ever offered or any fees waived. I was told from the first quote that a long carry fee was only necessary for long narrow driveways where the delivery truck can reach the delivery address. But it turned into a very different story when they finally arrived to deliver the furniture at the condo. The length was 100ft and the movers would not move unless the $75 fee was paid, eventhough they were 3 weeks late. Very dissapointed with the service and will never use this company again. Beware of the small print.

I had a horrible experience with Sky Moving recently. We decided to move from Gainesville, FL to Marietta, GA and theirs was the lowest quote I received in the start and to which I fell for. Kim their representative asked me on the phone to give 'complete' inventory. This was 6 days before the moving date so I told her that we still need to pack upon which the inventory in terms of boxes will be clear to us. She was very nice then and said it would be absolutely fine and I can always give inventory 24 hours before the actual move. Then she asked for my credit card and everything on it including the security code. I should have been suspicious but I was not. Anyway, I called her one day before the move and as per the inventory, from the initial estimate of $1200.. the latest estimate went to $2250. I wanted to cancel but I already paid off the deposit and didn't know better choice since the time was running out. So decided to take the risk.

Next day 3 guys showed up with a rental truck from Enterprise without any uniform etc. Without carefully noting the inventory started loading everything on truck. We were surprised and started asking as why they are not putting inventory numbers on each items. To pacify us, the driver Dan did put the inventory stickers on most items which got loaded in front of us. Then I noticed that he put a large roll of inventory stickers in his pockets. Not sure why. I had made a careful inventory myself for my records which saved me. Anyway as the truck started getting full (since they already had someone's stuff in first half of the truck), he realized that our stuff would not fit in. Thereby rejected 3 boxes full of books (also because they were heavy) which were included in the original inventory. We could not load some extra stuff which we thought we would pay them extra for. They also loaded the washer and dryer on the back bars outside of the truck since there was no space inside.

By the time they left, we were praying that they would take our stuff carefully.

4 days later in Marietta (distance 375 miles from Gainesville, FL), after repeated phone calls, I was told that they would be dropping off the shipment. I was eagerly waiting when they showed up late in the evening. Told me that they got 50% of my stuff now.. and rest will be delivered later. I was furious.. but had no choice. These guys didn't even check the inventory. Extramely careless, rude and just left boxes in my garage.

Next day at 9 pm in the night another pair showed up to download the stuff. Demanded money before even I see any of my stuff. No inventory list carried, no bill of lading.. no documentation at all. It's good that I had my own list. Careless handling of furniture. It was a nightmare ...

After everything is done, I have damaged king mattress, damaged washing machine, damages to sofa and loveseat. I am missing 1 bin.. still I consider myself fortunate for not missing any of my important documents.

This company is run by con artists. DO NOT EVER go with Sky Moving. Their address on the bill of lading is

Sky Moving & Storage, Inc.
15421 West Dixie Highway, Bay- 21
North Miami Beach, FL 33162
