United Van Lines did our move and we were very pleased with the service provided. Our items were well wrapped and we had no damages to our belongings. Other then a late delivery due to snow we could not have been happier.

We read all these reviews and ended up going with United Van Lines in Orlando Florida. The move went smooth and the men were very easy to deal with. The only negative was the price which was a little more than we wanted to spend but I guess it's better a few extra bucks than to deal with all the aggravation.

Fry Wagner UVL in Springfield, MO. was wonderful. They did what they said they would when they said they would do it. They were courteous and professional. Their price was in the middle of the 5 or so companies we called. Everything was transported with no problems at all and some of it was pretty fragile. We would definitely recommend them to anyone. Ask questions, read everything you can. We need to do our homework too!

Wanted to thank United van lines for a very pleasant move. We used their local agent in Atlanta GA and the work was top notch. We did get many quotes that were for much less money but in the end we figure it is worth the extra money for peace of mind.

We completed our move using united van lines out of Irving Texas. The moving quote we received was accurate and the men did a nice job with our furniture.

I would give them 5 stars for service and professionalism.

We just completed a move using United van lines in Texas and the service was great. They were clean and professional and although I am sure we could have found a cheaper mover we had zero set backs.

I was disappointed to see United receive only 3 stars on Epinions, as I just finish unpacking the last box from my second United move.

Anyone considering using United, or any other national moving company, should be sure to check on the reputation of the individual agent(s) involved in the move. I used Mesa Systems, based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. I first used them in May of 2007 to move from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, and now a second time from Los Angeles back to Salt Lake in March 2010.

This review is based more on my most recent move, but all the positives applied during both moves.

To start, one of their estimators will visit your home and calculate the approximate weight of your load. Their first estimate was right on the money, and since I moved the exact same stuff the second time around, they were able to pull up my file and give me an estimate that was a mere $20 off the final price.

You are then assigned a move coordinator. I have used Cindi both times and she is terrific calling every so often before the move date to check if theres anything they can help with, calling during the loading/unloading to make sure everything was going smoothly, and then making a follow-up call. They need only 6 days notice to schedule your move, and when I called three weeks earlier I was able to choose any day I wanted for them to pick up my goods.

For both moves, they arrived on-time and on the right day. Im sure this varies depending on how far you;re moving, but I was told beforehand that there was a 7-day window during which my belongings would be delivered to my new home (I would have 24 hour notice). However, both times, the driver was able to tell me the day and time of delivery right when they loaded the truck, and both times, they were not only right on time, but quick the first day of the 7-day window.

I did not use their packing service; with only a one-bedroom apartment, it only takes me a few hours to get everything together. However, one nice bonus was getting unlimited free boxes, which alone could be a $200 value. I just had to drive to their warehouse in Salt Lake and tell them what sizes I needed, and they even loaded them into my car! When I was in Los Angeles, they made arrangements with a partner moving company to supply boxes to me, although I ended up getting some from work.

The driver and one or two local guys load the truck. Each piece of furniture and box is given a numbered sticker, and the driver keeps an inventory list of what each number corresponds to. When everything arrives, I then check off each number on the sheet as the pieces come in.

In both moves, I never had a single piece missing or damaged. Each move has their own compartment on the truck, so Im not really sure how they could possibly lose something unless they forgot to put it on in the first place. Altogether in both moves, I had a CD rack slightly bent (which they offered to replace, though I just hammered it out) and two glasses broken (I could have packed them better). I have mostly Sauder build-it-yourself furniture, which are not the sturdiest, and yet the movers always treated my furniture with the utmost care and they are all still sturdy and working!

Unlike some of the other horror stories I have read here, both drivers and all the moving helpers were well-groomed, respectful, and very friendly. Its always a bit awkward standing around as your belongings are being loaded, and yet I always found myself in great conversations with the time flying by. My first move was a 3rd floor to a 3rd floor with no elevators, and water and breakfast from Jack-in-the-Box was all they needed to keep going (even though I felt awful watching them going up and down the stairs). Even still, they were fast and efficient without breaking anything.

Furniture like beds and tables are disassembled by the moving men and then put together again at the final destination. They also very carefully wrapped my microwave and TV in blankets to prevent damage. I have a barrister bookcase (the ones with sliding glass doors on each shelf) and they somehow have a box that it fits inside just perfectly, so I was no longer imagining the doors shattering on a sharp turn. Mattresses are put in special mattress boxes, which do cost extra (it wasnt broken down for me, but it was on the extra services sheet along with being on the 3rd floor), but keep your mattress dry and safe. Also be aware that disconnecting/reconnecting appliances is an extra fee. I have a washer/dryer and wasnt aware it was an extra fee until I had already moved. This was the only unforeseen fee, it was small compared to the overall cost of the move, and I never would have been able to do this myself anyway, so Im not complaining. They did apologize for not mentioning it beforehand, and seeing as the washer/dryer wasnt part of my first move and I didn't get a second estimate (I just told them over the phone to add it), I don't blame them for overlooking it.

When packing, you cannot include batteries, flammable liquids, lighters, matches, or anything else that may cause danger to the truck. They also recommend you not pack important documents like birth certificates. Since I needed my cleaning supplies in the apartment after they left, and would need them in the new apartment once I got there, I made it a point to keep a box with cleaning supplies that I put in my trunk once I drove to my new place (my first move, I didn't take this into account and had to toss all these supplies, because there was no room in my car). I threw a few batteries and lighters in, and then packed everything else.

A few moving tips that I hope can help someone else:

- Since you pay by weight, not by boxes, be generous with them. I now keep all my clothes on their original hangers (securing each bunch with an elastic band), fold them in half in bunches of 5-10, and pack them that way. It takes a little more space but saves hours and hours of re-hanging and ironing.

- Use soft items to wrap breakable ones. For example, I scattered my collection of tiny miniature porcelain animals throughout a box of pillows. I wrapped my computer monitor in two quilts, and stuck a plate inside each folded sweater. I still wrap kitchen items in newspaper, but I feel safer with my more precious items in soft fabrics, and this keeps newspaper residue from getting them dirty (can't put figurines in the dishwasher like you can a cup!)

- There's no time like moving to cleanse yourself of everything you don't really need. Don't wait until you're unpacking to do this; those extra pounds add up, and you just lost money moving things you didn't need to. Let go of that papasan chair from college that doesn't match any of your new furniture. Go through your file cabinet and recycle/shred everything you don't need anymore (paper is heavy!). Sell books, unopened cosmetics, and knick-knacks on eBay or Amazon.com (did you know people buy half-used cosmetics? They do!).

- Only put the bare essentials in your car. Pack a duffel bag as though you;re going on vacation for a week. I also bring all my cosmetics/lotions/etc because the extreme temperatures of the truck can melt lipsticks or make lotion bottles explode; my laptop; and a few items of particular importance (diamond jewelry, a few antiques). There's no reason I should have brought my shoe collection in my car the first time I drove, and not being able to see out my rear/side view mirrors means I made the drive more dangerous and had to go more slowly.

I can't speak for other United affiliates, but Mesa Moving Systems in Salt Lake City has been nothing but terrific to me, and helped me through two last-minute moves in a stress-free and affordable way. As a single woman, there is no way I could ever move myself, and I know that any moves in the future will be handled with the utmost care.

This company has moved me 6 times from Massachusetts to Walnut Creek and all over California. They are the best of the best. Brian Essary, the sales executive in the Sacramento region is great. They have never broken one thing. Teresa and Josh in Sacramento are also the most professional. The movers are great. If you use anyone else-you are tossing your money away these guys are the best.

I recently completed a cross country move (NYC to San Diego) and used Victory Van Lines (the local NY agent for United). I had gotten quotes from 2 of the other large companies and the United Quote was the least expensive. I got them to give me a "guaranteed not to exceed" quote which saved me hundreds of dollars in the end because they underestimated the weight of my shipment. But to make a long story short, I was VERY pleased. The agent in NY was very responsive and very understanding of my paranoia. (I actually began to weigh each box myself on my bathroom scale to make sure that I wasn't getting cheated). The packers were phenomenal and the men who delivered my items in California were also phenomenal. I have unpacked about half of my items (most of my fragile items have been unpacked) and everything is in the same condition in which I shipped it. I must say that I am a bit neurotic and I packed everything myself (very well!). But, they charged me what they quoted me. My stuff was picked up and delivered on time (actually, the moving guys were about 1.5 hours late on pick up--but quickly made up for their tardiness). I was very pleased. I was so skeptical after reading so many reviews of moving companies--but I must say that Victory Van Lines-United truly made this process bearable (and even pleasant). Thank you Victory Van Lines!

The service was great. First of all the guys arrived at the house early in the morning on moving day then they were very careful in the transport part of the process. They even held up to their fixed estimate of 2500 dollars. Even though the real price turned up to be over 6000! The movers were helpful with the paperwork. They explained every process to the dotted line. The move was from New York State to Florida which is a 1500 mile move and considering nothing broke is amazing. They also moved everything to the house from the truck without one broken item.

Very happy with the service, the movers were really easy to work with. We downsized homes to move out of state and still had too much stuff but they worked with me getting everything into the new house. They did not complain when I asked them to move a few things around to make it fit better.

We did get a lot of snow the day of the move and I thought about changing dates but they said that I needed to keep the date I had set up because they had another house to move the next day.

The driver was the same but the men that loaded were different then people that delivered into the new home. We had only moved in state before so I did not expect this but it worked out fine. I would say that we are happy with the way that everything turned out.

My husband's employer relocated our family from Texas to CT this past summer. They contracted with Suddath United Van Lines. I have to say that they really made our move a lot easier than I had expected. The independent driving team were wonderful. They were on time and when they were loading our furniture were very careful not to bang things around and scratch our furniture. The two people who packed our boxes for us were on time and seemed to do a lot in a little bit of time. Although, when we got to our location and unpacked our stuff we found a lot of things that were packed in strange ways, i.e., they would wrap a single battery in about 20 sheets of packing paper, or they dumped a small box of items that we had already packed into the bottom of a large box. Anyway, all in all, everything went very smooth and we had absolutely no problems.

If you are seeking a really good mover out of north Cali Merit moving is awesome, they are a united van lines agent out of Buena Park CA.

We used their service and found them to be very good. The guys did a great job loading our items wrapping and protecting them as well.

We moved 9,000 lbs at a cost near $6,000 with insurance.

A Good Choice

When I decided to relocate from Minnesota to Colorado I wanted to hire professional movers. About five weeks before the move I had two moving companies look-over my possessions to be moved and offer quotes. Although United was somewhat higher in price, I went with them for a variety of reasons, and it turned out to be a good choice.

Getting Quotes
I originally intended to get quotes from three companies. But Mayflower and United Van Lines offered similar prices to do the move, plus United's agent (from Mohawk Moving & Storage in Minneapolis) was much more professional and organized than Mayflower's. One big factor is that United offered a Binding Not to Exceed Quote, which meant the price would not go higher, but could go lower if the actual weight of the load was lower than estimated. I also liked how the United's agent explained the whole process and exactly which steps I would need to take to make it a successful move.

Before the move
I made sure I packed everything so items were not rattling around and boxes would not mash down. Items that were hard to box-up got wrapped in shrinkwrap. (Some items the mover will wrap, like furniture). Also, I confirmed the move date about two weeks ahead of time, just to make sure the mover remembered me!

Moving Day
A representative from United called the day before the move with a 2-hour window when they would arrive on moving day. They arrived on time the next day with a full-sized moving truck (there were other loads on the truck). They first double-checked which items would be moved, which should not be loaded, and laid-down protective covers on the carpets. Next, they went through and numbered every item with a small sticker. This is your inventory of contents. It took just under 4 hours to load everything, which included disassembling a queen-sized bed and boxing up both the mattress and box spring. The movers pointed out how some items were already scratched and/or dented before they touched them.

If you move in winter (like I did) be aware that the doors will be propped and it'll be very cold in the house. My dog was freezing and I had to move him to a room far from the doors. Also, it'll help to have all the boxes labeled for which room they will go to in the new location.

In the end the move-out went well. The movers and driver were reasonably courteous and careful about moving everything. I tipped the two movers and the driver $25 each, and gave the driver very specific directions to my new place. United called me a few hours later to confirm the pick-up, which I greatly appreciated. They called again a few hours later to say the load was weighed and the original price of $3,200 would ''only'' be $2,500. This largely occurred because I donated or threw out quite a few items I originally planned to move.

Delivery
I was given a 3-day window for delivery of the goods. The driver called the morning of the first possible day and said: ''I'll be there in 15 minutes''. Yikes! I had to run to the bank and get a Cashiers check for payment. In the meantime the driver and two movers scoped out how to move my stuff up to the second floor of an apartment building. I got lucky in that the road in front of my apartment was big enough to accommodate a full-sized rig. If it was too narrow they would have off- loaded everything onto a smaller truck and charged over $500 more!

At first I tried to keep track of each numbered item off-loaded by looking at the inventory of contents. However, I was soon overwhelmed with so much going on and gave up. But I did keep an eye out for specific items like the big furniture and some very important possessions I simply labeled ''Misc. Kitchen Supplies''.

Once everything was moved-in (I'm still wondering how they fit the mattress in the elevator) they reassembled the bed and helped move a few items into the specific rooms where I wanted them. Overall the movers were professional, and I tipped everyone $25 (the driver I ended up tipping on both ends of the move).

Overall
I was very happy with the service provided by United Van Lines. Only one minor item was broken (a $10 clock), they picked-up and delivered on time, and I was called to verify that everything was going as planned. In hindsight I may have been able to find a lower-priced mover, but the good service and professionalism outweighed pinching pennies. Based on my experience I wouldn't hesitate to use United Van Lines again.

This was our first time moving and we really did not know what to expect, we had gotten so many different prices and quotes and no two where the same.

We finally decided to go with a well know company for going the savings of some of the smaller guys and we fell like we made the right choice, Armstrong completed the move with out problems and with in the price agreed upon.

If your looking for a great mover in the Mass area Diggins & Ross are great. I moved 2 times with them and could not be happier.

I have been using United Van Lines for years in fact I have moved 10 times and all but once with United and that was a mistake.

If you have the means I know it cost more but you get what you pay for use United they do a great job.
